Yes, and then to GeoNet to do the Felt Report. Don’t forget to look at the glass of orange juice on the table to help you work out the intensity.

this article ran on the front page of today's New York Times but the paper has still never reported Donald Trump's threats to imprison people for criticizing the Supreme Court

NYT headline: "After 85 Years, Fixing a Typo The Brontes Would've Hated"

Lede: "For 85 years, the names of three of English litera- ture's best-known writers, Char- lotte, Emily and Anne Brontë, were featured in Poets' Corner, the Westminster Abbey nook dedi- cated to great poets, authors and playwrights, but something was- n't quite right: They were missing
the accent mark. Last week, the error was fixed when the diereses - umlaut-like punctuation dots, each just about a third of an inch in diameter - were added above each E of the fa-
mous last name."

...what you don't get is that you are blatantly benefiting from the polices of your government, although, to be fair, that sort of graft hardly makes you stand out alongside the likes of Jones, McKee and Costello...

In a sense, it's a kind of relief that the damage from global warming isn't concentrated on the Global South, because that's what everyone in charge has been working towards with the toughening up of border controls and the like. But it's not just the tropics that will be unsurvivable soon.

and while some people *will* say (with an unbothered conscience), "who cares about FL?", the fact is that we now have hurricane-like spiral storms OVER CENTRAL EUROPE and over the continental U.S., and it's not just third world countries' poors getting fucked now.

You prevent these things by stopping pumping CO2 into the atmosphere thirty years ago. Failing that, you prepare for them by investing huge public funds in flood defences and hoping for the best. Or you do neither and watch Florida get washed away I guess.

And as we're seeing, there is nothing that can be done to prepare for this in the short term. Nothing. There aren't enough sandbags in the world to stop a twenty-foot storm surge from destroying everything in its path. These are elemental forces.
