🚨 I'm GUEST JUDGING! 🚨 I’ve joined @elegantliterature.bsky.social for the October New Writer contest! I'd love for people to help spread the word about this contest so new writers can get the spotlight and be paid pro-rates! I love what the mag is doing and more people need to know about it!

Announcement of the contest theme in white lettering that says: Talking in Tongues, $3000 literary award, new writers only, all genres accepted. The background of the announcement is an gray-scale ear morphing into the shape of a snake.
Black lettering against a white and cream background that outlines the details of the contest (such as deadline, wordcount, prizes, and entry fee) which can also be found on the Elegant Literature Magazine website.
Black lettering against a white and cream background that describes my interpretation of the contest theme as such: “With English as my foreign language, this theme is very special to me. Languages form and shape whole personalities and lives and psyches, while the act of translation can feel like a language in and of itself. To me, this theme spans all of the emotional register. It evokes a sense of isolation, fear, courage, anger, separation, sacrifice, confrontation, home away from home, masking, found family, community, acceptance, and much more.”

Some days I think that the pacing inconsistencies in my novels has a lot to do with the fact that I write hybrid genre most of the time. Genres have different pacing expectations and it can honestly be so hard to figure out which expectation to follow when you write hybrid genre.
