Hey #econsky: Does your department offer some type of incentive (e.g. teaching relief) for serving in an editorial role (editor/co-editor) of a top journal (say top field or higher)?

Note that some fields (eg CS) donā€™t publish much in journals, the peer review is done when submitting to conferences. So itā€™s being published in the proceedings of a conference (not a journal) that ā€œmattersā€ for them.

papers are more useful to society when theyā€™re public goods (so others can build on them easily). But thereā€™s info asymmetry regarding quality/reliability. Peer review resolves this to some extent.
