Hey #econsky: Does your department offer some type of incentive (e.g. teaching relief) for serving in an editorial role (editor/co-editor) of a top journal (say top field or higher)?

Note that some fields (eg CS) don’t publish much in journals, the peer review is done when submitting to conferences. So it’s being published in the proceedings of a conference (not a journal) that “matters” for them.

papers are more useful to society when they’re public goods (so others can build on them easily). But there’s info asymmetry regarding quality/reliability. Peer review resolves this to some extent.
