Exactly! Contracts keep everyone safe

0

Artists, are you about to miss a deadline? Tell your client. Are you going overtime or over budget? Warn your client first. Do you plan to share the client's work in your portfolio? Negotiate that up front. In a business relationship, like any relationship, communication is key!

Let us know what else you'd like to learn about contracts, and we'll cover it in a future post.

With smaller clients, it's often up to the artist to draft a contract. It helps to have a blank template ready to go.
Always put agreements in writing! Always read contracts before signing!
Armadillo will be an art licensing platform that also provides education about negotiation and contracts.

Why do you need a contract? A quick guide!

Why Do I Need A Contract? A quick guide for artists. Not legal advice!
A contract can help settle a dispute in a court of law. But contracts also prevent disputes in the first place.
Work relationships can go sour when expectations don't align. A contract puts everyone on the same page, and puts it in writing.
A company will often provide their own contract drafted by a legal team. It never hurts to ask if it's negotiable.

In other contracts, the artist still owns the artwork, only selling some of its usage rights.
By retaining ownership of their work, artists can earn more money by licensing the same artwork to different clients.
Armadillo will be a platform where artists can share their licensable work, and negotiate the terms that are right for them!

A quick introductory guide to licensing for artists!

What is licensing? A quick guide for artists
When an artist creates a work of art, the usage rights automatically belong to the artist.
If someone else wants to use the artwork, they can buy the usage rights from the artist. This is called licensing.
Some contracts give full ownership of the artwork to the client.
