The Pogo comic strip by Walt Kelly debuted on October 4, 1948, in the New York Star. It ran until the paper folded in January 1949, but the strip was picked up for national distribution in May 1949. Before the strip, Kelly had written and drawn the characters in Dell comic books since 1941.

I've been reading the Dashiell Hammett collection "Crime Stories & Other Writings" published by Library of America. Such fun stuff! I wish some streaming content service would do a Continental Op series. The stories "The Big Knock-Over" & "$106,000 Blood Money" would make an excellent first season.

Our neighbors didn't like our mixed race family, so one night they spray painted "NIGER" and "COON" on the road in front of the house. Another night they stuffed a dead racoon (coon, get it?) in the mailbox. They were horrible.
