now that I've read "minor detail" by adania shibli, I understand why frankfurt book fair chickened out. this book deserves liberaturpreis, and much much more. shibli is, together with rachel cusk, jhumpa lahiri and nella larsen, hands down, one of my best reads of 2023.

I can at least thank them for getting me to read it. I was aware of it when it was nominated for the Booker International but I thought it would be too depressing. It is indeed upsetting but so incredibly well done, I was blown away.
