OH MY GOD... ...I have to test this more but I think it just restored my ability to find 5+ year old news articles by remembering the publication and a few keywords. This used to work like magic but it's been impossible for years.

Forget AI. Google just created a version of its search engine free of the extra junk it has added over the past decade-plus. You just need one URL parameter.

If it works it's going to improve my work and the research for my writing immeasurably. I used to be able to always find a specific old article I remembered reading if I remembered the general subject and two of the following: publication, author name, an interviewee, a specific phrase, the year.

Gotta love how 'web' is optional for a web search, but if this is the closest we get to Google classic I'll take it.
