Personally I think the threshold for holding someone accountable for threats & incitement should be on a sliding scale where the more power and influence you have, the lower the threshold. Even lower if your fan base skews hateful & armed. It’s maddening watching the sliding scale go the wrong way.

It sort of works like this but in reverse for libel and defamation so there’s some precedence for that kind of system.
You're absolutely right. A person with that much power can't just idly wonder publicly about violence being committed against anyone. "Will no one rid me of this turbulent man," is an important quote for a reason.
