I've mollified my opinions on this after having used the UK system (public provision + private opt out) and the French one (public insurance + mixed provision + price controls). French one has its problems but the quality of care on the axes patients care about is just way higher.

As someone who has spend WAY too much time in both systems, they both have their pitfalls, but Iā€™ll take the Canadian system in its current state (which isnā€™t great due to the for profit meddling, especially by one Fix Or Repair Daily Premier) over the US system any day.

You spelled ā€œdiseasecareā€ wrong. Tbf though, avoiding it did force me into pursuing better lifestyle choices such as a whole food plant based diet 11yrs ago.

White coat clad med school professor slaps his pointer against a chalkboard which reads in bold print, ā€œPREVENTATIVE MEDICINE KILLSā€. In smaller print below it continues, ā€œreturn businessā€.

It is sickening that the Labour party are accelerating the destruction of the NHS. Both they and Tories do this while telling us the NHS is safe in their hands, but that's word play to them and they think the electorate is stupid - sadly all too right.

Money always moves toward privatizing public resources. Schools, land, healthcare, industry, transport, if it is not run for a profit you can be sure there are people out there who think it should be and are working toward that goal all the time. I'm surprised the NHS survived Thatcher actually.

I think if you're honest with people & public money is actually used for the public good (not syphoned off into private pockets) most wouldnt mind paying a bit more to secure a decent public service. However much it costs, it would cost a lot more if we had to pay out shareholder dividends on top.

Canadians are doing our best to stop them, but it's hard when the governments keep getting corrupted...

Bad for people. GREAT for business. And clearly only businesses matter. ā˜¹ļø

In Canada, the ONLY ones pushing for privatization of health care, and many other things that the majority of Canadians don't want... are the Conservatives. (I won't speak for the UK, but I think it's the same with conservatives over there.)

Canadians: Again? Seriously?
Conservatives: Climate denial. Racism. Homophobia. Gutting of social services.

Itā€™s what we doā€¦elect progressive governments that develop services; conservatives blame the progressive parties for global problems. Conservatives sell off Govt services to multinational for-profit firms. Wonder why stuff is expensive and people are dying without services they canā€™t afford...repeat
