Elections are trolley problems and as much as we would all love to levitate the train off its tracks (or point it toward whoever put it there) we don’t have that option right now. The train is coming and the switch is in your hand. Don’t listen to people telling you to walk away.
Posts like these not only make great points but are also such a good guide about who to block in the replies
Then you have four years to build a better train track. You can't do that if the guy who gets elected tears up the tracks.
When your elections are always a trolley problem you dont have a democracy. You live in a jungle and you regularly offer innocent people as sacrifices to appease the gods.
Apt metaphor, thank you.
I just wish voting was more than "I don't want THAT OTHER PERSON to be elected" but that is all i have, and dammit. I am going to do it by making that little circle as dark as possible and add as much weight to it as i can with sheer will.
Trolley problems themselves being a way to instill the legitimacy of false binaries when multi-track drifting guarantees the worst outcome in one, but not the other - see grand coalitions globally.
Huh never thought of voting as a trolly problem. I'll let that simmer a bit
I like to say "voting is an act of self-defense".
Early voting in my state opened on the 8th, already voted for Kamala. I got my passport renewed last April, and I'm making asylum plans just in case. There will be a couple hundred million refugees flooding other countries if Trump gets back in.
The lesser of two evils means an easier opponent to fight. "Vote blue no matter who" may sound overly dismissive of Democrats' failure to push back against Republicans on key issues, but it's gonna be easier to convince Harris to suddenly care about protecting trans kids than to convince Trump.
