At UT Austin Astro to give a colloquium and I got to visit one of my favorite instruments. (If you can’t read the label, it’s IGRINS.)

Selfie in front of a the plastic drapes of a clean room. Inside is an instrument, with a blurry but barely legible label: “IGRINS”

We know the number of astro undergrads (and researching post-bacs) is increasing, we know the pressure for them to publish is increasing, as well as overall publication pressure. But the number of postdocs and faculty hasn’t been increasing. So MOAR papers but same # of potential referees?
