19 years ago tonight I was in Madison Square Garden taking some of the better concert photos I’ve ever snapped. Is it a sign of having reached mid-life when the majority of your memories can be described with “feels like a different lifetime entirely”?

Bono, of the band U2, holding a microphone in two hands and wearing a leather jacket and a “Coexist” bandana as a blindfold. The singer is lit in red and orange stage lighting.
A profile photo of The Edge, from the band U2, holding a red electric guitar and smiling toward the crowd. The shot is lit by multiple white spotlights.
Adam Clayton, of the band U2, wears all black and strums his bass guitar in a dark photo. He is lit by two(?) warm spotlights and he looks out into the crowd.

Hey everybody, I was a guest on a podcast recently! The hosts of the Reddmasq had me on to talk about the recent VCF, all my masochistic TTL projects, and all sorts of other stuff! youtu.be/2ZLAd5Xgb0s?...

I’m auctioning twelve 2600 cartridges from Thailand on eBay in order to help fund (what else?) a big Atari purchase. If you search for Atari + Thailand you’ll find ‘em. Gotta love these “Activision” cartridges that use Cliff Spohn’s Wizard artwork (created for… Atari, not Activision).

A light blue 2600 cartridge featuring a silver color label with ActiVision in black text above collage artwork featuring the wizard from Atari’s “Brain Games”, among other Atari game related art.

The janky lettering on this Pong has got my blood pressure up. Gonna practice some self-care now by staring at that beautiful Video Pinball for a while.

“[Nolan] Bushnell believes that [Atari graphic designer George] Opperman purposefully offered multiple, conflicting origin stories for the [‘Fuji’] logo…” What if Opperman didn’t want to reveal outside inspiration? NCR (carbonless) Paper and Boards sample book, c. 1960s by Wiggins Teape Ltd.

NCR Paper and Boards sample book by Wiggins Teape (Merchants) Ltd. According to its owner (print collector Matt Lamont, of Design Reviewed) it dates to the 1960s.

It’s a square royal blue book with three stylized white/yellow/light blue lines that look remarkably like the well-known Atari “Fuji” logo, purportedly designed in the early 1970s. It reads “NCR Paper and Boards” in the upper left.

So I'm really excited to say that the first DLC pack, The Wider World of Atari, has an extensive video interview with Evelyn Seto, the graphic designer who actually INKED THE ICONIC FUJI LOGO back in 1972, and went on to lead Atari's graphic design efforts in later years.

As part of tomorrow's DLC release, #Atari50 will get an update, and it includes a surprise: Neo Breakout gets a level editor, courtesy of its programmer, Jason Cirillo. This new feature isn't part of DLC; it's for all Atari 50 players. Watch for that patch on your platform of choice tomorrow!
