"Merrick Garland should know by now there’s no appeasing the GOP and there’s no pleasing the press. All he’s doing is giving bad actors ammunition, and this election is going to be bad enough without an unwitting assist from the DOJ."
It's like James Comey and "but her emails" all over again.
Seems like a repeat of appointing Ken Starr. Starr's behavior and pursuit of Clinton formed the basis for bipartisan jettisoning of the independent counsel statute and the more watered down independent counsel regs. Starr's appointment was also were one wonders about that decision.
Merrick Garland may well have been a great Supreme Court Justice, but honestly he kind of sucks at being the Attorney General. Waiting to bring charges against Trump & Company until Trump announced that he was running for President was a most unfortunate choice.
Merrick Garland has always appeased his mentor, Kushner lawyer and neoliberal Forest Gump, Jamie Gorelick, as well as Leonard Leo's Federalist Society of which he is a longtime member.
I think we can move past the “Garland should know…” views to recognize that he never was anything but a political animal, more interested in proffering the “the DOJ must be viewed as non-partisan” as a rationale for what he does rather than something less palatable
Personally, I think Biden's material support of an ongoing genocide is more of a problem for his reelection chances than a nothingburger scandal that everybody is going to forget about.
Really should have gone with Doug Jones.
I'm sick to fucking death of that bland, empty suit Target store mannequin. "Without fear or favor" my ass.
"BUTT HUR EMAILS" was right there!
If Biden wins a second term, Garland gotta go.
Or maybe, just maybe, Merrick Garland is in on it & has no problem with what happened. The Republican Daddy issue has long been a problem and he walked right into it. Recall that the Senate R's were just fine with Garland until Mitch pulled the plug. Garland remains Biden's biggest domestic mistake
