This feels similar to how IBM infiltrated corporations. Then came per-JVM pricing. By then they were so enmeshed in tech and processes nobody wanted to untangle, they happily fork over $$$ to keep💡on. Source: worked on IBM mainframes in 2020s. Someone found out I wrote COBOL and it was over.
