I had to look up the charges: Ohio law prohibits residential use in first-floor buildings in a business district, so cops came during a church service and issued 18 zoning violations bc the pastor was letting people sleep there so they didn't freeze to death! www.jsonline.com/story/opinio...
I would hope in solidarity, and because it's the right thing to do, that *all* churches would do this. It's a prime legitimate role of churches.
This is so insane to me like in North Carolina we had a woman hiding from ice in a church, which ice knew but they were still unwilling to raid the church due to the optics
cops stop being utterly useless challenge — difficulty level: impossible
How mean humans can become!!!😢
What a weird sub-hed. In some ways? In what ways was he not trying to prevent people dying in the cold?
These are the same people who don't want to use their "hard earned money" helping people and "let the charities do it" . Ugh ffs.
“During a church service,” wow, that’s some deliberate theatrics from someone right there. I hope they sue the cops under the 1st Amendment for interfering with their right to practice their religion. The religion ofc being Christianity, so it would at least be a fun case to watch.
But why are COPS issuing zoning violations anyway? I’ve worked in municipal government. That’s the job of the zoning officer, who is generally an administrator with no police affiliation. This whole story is weird.
Couldn't they give him a waiver or something? Due to religion?
I know a lot of people are going to take issue with what I'm about to say but think about it for a minute as you read this: Cruelty is not the point, it's the means. The point is eliminating people who would otherwise be a burden to the system forcing the system to spend money taking care of them
