It’s mad. Even the rejoiners can’t grasp they can’t have a bunch of special UK privileges to rejoin.

I think the special privileges were a big strategic error. It meant opt-outs and non-participation were always seen as a positive rather than negative thing, and fuelled already-inherent exceptionalism.
