Short version: 1. Musks's Starlink gamed a badly run Trump-era broadband subsidy system to get a billion dollars. 2. The Biden FCC (correctly) reversed the award, saying taxpayer money should be prioritized for more reliable fiber, and that Starlink was expensive and slow. 3. Republicans whined.
So I love this law. Basically, California spends billions replacing gas lines on a regular basis to make sure they aren’t leaking. The bill identifies neighborhoods up for replacement; if the neighborhood prefers, they will shut off the gas line and buy everyone free electric appliances instead.
