Very interesting! There's a lot of psychology of science here! It provokes a lot of research questions.

A group of colleagues and I have recently developed a qualitative analysis of systemic factors influencing the behavior of scientists (with an emphasis on ethical vs. self-serving behavior, the field of psychology, and the German academic system). Feedback is very welcome. osf.io/preprints/ps...

The problem is when the post-data hypothesis is presented as pre-data and one uses that data to support the hypothesis.

No clear demarcation, yet different perspective, toolset, and methodology. What a dedicated field can achieve is, among others, fostering long-term research programs through grant schemes, PhD programs etc.
