100%. I'm trying to write more public facing stuff for this reason. It is a whole other skill though!

One that is irritatingly undervalued on the academic side - even seen as a detriment as noted in the piece. But even in private sector, I've been asked if engagement is really part of my job. Then turn right around and ask where I find new research, how I know people, where I get ideas, etc.
