8. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Anyone who knows me saw this coming. Never has any game emotionally impacted me like this one. The journey, the characters, the atmosphere, the music, all some of the best in the genre, if not *THE* best. If you have the time, please play the Xenoblade trilogy in general.

7. Digimon World This PS1 game is an oddity. Part creature-raising, part 'city builder'. It does neither well, but for some reason, the tedium of balancing your Digimon's needs with improving it's stats becomes masochistically satisfying, as is gathering friends from the world to rebuild File City.

6. Mischief Makers For something weirder, Treasure made this N64 exclusive platformer that is hard to put into words. It uses unorthodox yet smooth controls that let you do platforming, puzzle-solving, and combat via using directional thruster and grab/throw-oriented movement. Shake, shake!

Just a sampling of my favorite games of all time. There are plenty more I can think of, but these come to mind. I only did one per franchise, and I tried my best not to swamp the list with RPGs with a bit of genre variation.
5. Baldur's Gate 3 Never in my years did I think this series would get a 3rd installment, set the bar for choice-based RPGs, and be beloved the world over. The freedom this game offers with it's mechanics are second only to, of course, the tabletop game. And the character writing. Chef's kiss.
