It depends entirely on where you live (and what size of dog you can keep). But I have some strong opinions when it comes to keeping dogs anyway - for example I agree with adoption requirements that demand the dog isn't left alone for more than 4 hours a day or your lifestyle is unfit for a dog.

Yee i wouldnt think of having a dog with my current job, even if i love them they need a lot of care and routine and i can simply not give that to them. Cats are way more fitting for my current lifestyle. Not everyone understands that.
