I read it in college circa 1978, I should reread it (currently reading "Nearer"). I find used books at bookfinder.com Wow, the prices! I have two copies, one is (ahem) autographed. IIRC That One was $15 in the 1990s. I recall his AI doubting stance seemed weak, based on emotion/sentiment.

"Actually ..." You may recall that the Mercury mission took several years and several planetary flybys to get there. If you don't need to go fast (a crewed mission normally WOULD go fast, to limit supplies needed and radiation exposure), it takes a lot less fuel: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpl...
