A friend I’ve known for 40 years has become intensely centrist and, while I understand his frustration, I do not agree that “both our choices are equally bad.” The concept of asymmetry is remarkably useful. Also worth noting that there isn’t some magic 3rd option. We have 2 choices & one is better.
Even if a 3rd party candidate were to win (against all odds) they would still need to caucus with one or the other party because our goofy system is a winner take all 50/50 split. I’d love to see ranked choice & party splitting but that only happens in increments. Incremental progress still matters.
Very much agreed. I often prescribe myself to the notion of "All politicians are horrible" but even I understand that you have to weigh the pros and cons. It's about making an educated and informed decision. I choose to vote in a way that leads to better lives for the people I care about.
