As a T&F journal editor - where we publish a lot of critical work on AI - I think it's ethically essential the publishers - all of them - get fully transparent about their AI training partnerships with Big Tech cos fast. It's an awful situation because academic authors are truly locked in... (1/2)
Academic publishers are the infrastructure we don't notice until they go wrong (except when we encounter the terrible submission portals). They underwrite and enable our whole fields. These AI deals are wrong, and their nontransparency is worrying. I too will push for clarity (2/2)
Why on earth are journal publishers training mediocrity engines in the first place? How can you possibly peer review a document generated from nothing? Congratulations on destroying your industry.
