One of President Carter’s many humanitarian efforts was the eradication of guinea worm, a parasite that causes incredibly painful and debilitating disease in some of the poorest parts of the world. And he’s almost done it. In 2023, there were 14 cases. When he started, there were millions a year.

My brother is a cop (it's complicated) and getting interrupted by that notification would STILL fill me with rage.

Not that it's a total failure, obv, but there have been some really ridiculous downturns there...

If you want to see this in action, take a look at how many times wrestling has jumped the shark by catering to that small but vocal subset (or, you know because Vince had a "brilliant" (terrible) idea.)

I wish I still didn't know this was a thing 😒😒😒

Zombie fiction is, at its core, about the fear of seeing your own body age and decay. Ghost stories are about the impossibility of grappling with the past. Vampires are about what if you got so horny you died

The are few things that feel more validating to me than to have 2 cats that have decided I'm the best human on the planet. I didn't grow up with cats, but I've always loved them. My ex hated them 😒 so I didn't have a chance to have my own until we moved here. It's the greatest.

Rick is nighttime buddy. He is the low man in the pack of 4, the other 3 being female who are half his size and a dog. The kids make him nervous and he's never really gotten attached to my long-time cat-person partner. I am the sole recipient of his bed-rumbling purrs and his sharp-clawed hugs and his intense reciprocal grooming when he gets butt skritches. He's the orangest!
Becky is my OG. She has a pretty severe flea allergy, and when I met her at the shelter she was this little half-bald post partum ball of nervous love. She purrs like a cricket and just did figure 8s around my legs any time I went into her pen. We were looking for a pair of playful young cats to keep our farmhouse mice in check. She'd been at the shelter for too long because she was bald and bony after a bad flea infestation and a healthy litter of street kittens. There was no question she was coming home with me (and then Carmella earned her spot after she dead-eyed a pittie that was heading home after a stay at County for killing a cat).

She's a cat that doesnt like to be held or contained, but she's intensely affectionate wedged she chooses to be. She'll let the kids stroke her in small doses. she mothered Flower with dedication. She wrestles with our high prey drive anxious dog. She has the most adorable and distinctive of set of sounds.

But she only relaxes and sleeps with me.

Daily Dahlias: Slim pickings Edition #dahlias#FlowerReport ❤️🌱🌺

Spartacus. Dark Red informal decorative, marked by the petals sweeping back to the stem. This one's a bit bug-eaten and only partially open, but she's a stunner.
Bloomquist Jean. Large orange informal decorative with extra long, wavy petals. They're my tallest plant, and they all took a beating from Helene. But they're working really hard to come back.
Crazy Legs. Smaller Informal decorative with rosy red petals on the reverse slide and yellow in the front. Kinda hard to see against my orange mailbox post, but really striking!
Terracotta. Muted orange informal decorative. Really lovely color and a nice soft form. Plus, great dark stems and prolific.
