I keep wondering what they think will happen the day they finally eradicate all safety regulations the way they dream of and Canada just stops buying their shit. We import like 250 billion worth of stuff every year, but if we can’t trust any of it anymore…

Not just Canada, probably most of the US' trading partners. It takes a long, long time to earn back that trust, too. I'm certainly wary of buying any food item for humans (or pets) from any place where the safety regulation don't seem to be adequate or reliably enforced.
