My completely not-a-crank take on this is that 35 years of terrible pedagogy about Skokie v NSPA has cooked the brains of a generation of people into thinking that the true measure of how free a society is, is how accommodating to literal nazis it is.
Glenn Greenwald is, obviously, if not actually patient zero for this, certainly a one man infectious reservoir.
