After decades of devastating increases driven by fentanyl and other toxic street drugs, overdose deaths are dropping sharply in much of the U.S. The trend could mean roughly 20,000 fewer deaths in 2024.
Here in Washington state you can order two free doses of Narcan. I carry one with me just in case I'm in a position to help someone.

It's great news, but I'm in Vancouver and here we're trying to figure out how to deal with folks that now have brain injuries. I gather even if Narcan keeps someone alive, the cognitive damage might already be severe. I hope the downward trend continues!

The restriction on poppy cultivation has decimated a key trade for hundreds of thousands of farmers and labourers.
Making Narcan so available that I debated making it part of my carriers' standard kit (didn't, temperature changes can fuck it up) definitely helped.
