Rest in peace. In the event that anyone who followed Nick here is unaware: www.animenewsnetwork.com/editorial/20...
It's with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing of Nicholas Charles Dupree, long-time editorial contributor to ANN, This Week in Anime co-host, and the funniest guy I've ever met.
It gets so lonely here (visual novel) written & programmed by ebi-hime RECOMMENDED "Fight against your fate." A free yandere yuri fairytale; need I say more? Great writing & music create an immersive atmosphere of lonely horror. The gravedigger's route was my favorite.
Guilty (13 volumes) written & drawn by Ai Okaue RECOMMENDED "How many more times will I get to hold you?" A sordid & thrilling rollercoaster of drama, betrayal, secret identities, hidden motivations, motherhood, hatred, reconciliation, and love. Nice binge read for the weekend.
There's more to say... of course there's more to say about Umineko, but it's super late and I just wanted to mark the date that I finished. From 13 August 2022 to 16 January 2024, that's a total of 521 days that I've been living in the cat box that is Umineko. Rest in peace.
Umineko When They Cry (visual novel, 8 episodes) written by Ryukishi07, developed by 07th Expansion HIGHLY RECOMMENDED "Without love, the truth cannot be seen." How do I sum up a 150+ hr masterpiece? I don't. I'm just thankful for an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience.
One More Step, Come Stand by My Side (1 volume) written & drawn by Toryumon Takeda RECOMMENDED "I love you! I could never forget you!" It's a fascinating art, creating tales out of snippets of characters and lives that hint at more. Intriguing, amusing, and heartwrenching.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 3 (13 episodes) directed by Kei Oikawa, Studio Kai 👍 "I want to win!" Impressive how entertaining and even moving a franchise with this premise can be. They didn't have to go this hard. It was a boost to my spirits in a difficult time.
Roid (2 volumes) written & drawn by shiroshi 👍 "I'm jealous of you." A short sci-fi yuri manga. The tension between a girl in a wheelchair and the android copy she makes of herself, who can do what she can't, is a compelling conflict I'd have liked to see developed further.
