Great to see that my local indie cinema the Glasgow Film Theatre is showing the new Endurance documentary on Monday. This film uses the incredible scans of the shipwreck that were released today. www.glasgowfilm.org/movie/endura...

Endurance
Endurance

The directors of Free Solo and NYAD use one extraordinary expedition to explore our ongoing fascination with human endurance and physical achievement. In 1915, the ship Endurance sank near Antarctica...

Yup, had to drop my first block a few weeks ago. Felt like the death of innocence, like the serpent has entered Eden.

Or shows that technological development and GDP growth have become decoupled?

I try not to speculate as to whether someone is or was SIS or 5 - force of habit (speculation of that kind is, in itself, a security breach) - but sometimes you think to yourself 'oh come on!!!'.

Absolutely agree. Need to get them young, but then you are accused of 'politicising' history education 🙄

See the same with Cromwell - recast as a guardian of democracy rather than as a militant theocrat. Or here in Scotland, people go straight from Bannockburn to Culloden with nary a glance at what happened in between.

I agree completely. What I mean is that, in lots of instances, the ignorance is willful. There are people who will argue that talking about when Britain ran a highly effective, morally bankrupt drug ring in another country is "doing Britain down" or "woke".

The majority of British people (not unique to them, all do it) only ever want to believe a mythologised version of their history, with all the morally questionable bits erased.
