but yeah my back goes up when people 1 operationalize 'good outcome' as 'high income' and 2 use 'leisure time' as a spit word and this video did both

the radical things that ubi imagines only come with a radical ubi program, which ofc sam altman isnt going to fund there *is* a political danger if the worst ppl get a hold of ubi, set the basic income at the beer money level, then complains that 'the poors are so ungrateful' when its not enough

no surprise that guaranteeing everybody enough money to take basic leisure activities freed them up to ... do basic leisure activities the point of ubi is not 'to get people to invest in themselves and raise the value of their human capital' or whatever its to do whatever they want

i 100% agree that cutting people a few hundred bucks a month solves nothing, but again, 1k/month isnt a 'basic income' 'basic income' satisfies your basic needs, which is monstrously expensive to fund it, you need to extract the concentrated wealth and distribute it

ubi in its radical form is a massive, ongoing downward wealth transfer, which obviously you cant really simulate with a local pilot at 1k/mo (chalk this up to this being a sam altman project) iow, ubi is really *more* about wealth inequality than it is about income inequality

i also have to beef with the paltry amounts here 12k/yr isnt a 'basic income' - its glorified beer money i might be no true scotsmanning here, but there is something to this ubi in its radical form is a massive, ongoing downward wealth transfer

i have a lot of beef with the framing of this video tbh the object of ubi *is to get people more leisure time* using 'higher income' to mean 'better outcome' kind of misses the point the guarantee of the income will ofc induce people to work less, irrespective of the $ amount *thats the point*
