I once encountered an author who was getting his friends to give his book one star reviews like this on Amazon, with the logic that more people read those reviews than any others and they're more likely to believe a "bad" review that makes the reviewer sound like an idiot than any good review.
I usually look at the 3* and below reviews. They usually tell you more about the reviewer than the book, and can point you toward good things.

I really wish Amaz*n would give me some kind of "not my cup of tea" option. There are a couple of books I've had to leave reviews on like: this book is totally fine! People who like x y z will probably like it. But I have to 2 star it or the algorithm will recommend this author to me forever, sorry!
