Iā€™m excited be the recipient of a grant from the DC Commision on the Arts and Humanities this year! Local funding for writers and artists is critical to their ability to create work, and itā€™s an honor to receive this funding. I bought a very cool handmade mug by a local ceramicist to celebrate.

One of the pleasures of moderating a book event is getting to spend time thinking deeply about an authorā€™s work, followed by a chance to ask them questions about writing it. I had a great time with Ananda Lima and Constance Sayers at Fall for the Book Festival this weekend doing just that!

Yup. Writing is thinking. So if you write a shitty first draft, you did some thinking and are on your way! If you got ā€œAIā€ to write the draft, you havenā€™t thought AND now youā€™re trying to fix up what some non-thinking robot ā€œthought.ā€ You just put yourself 30 yards behind the starting line.

Serious question for people who own cars: do you not realize how aggressive and dangerous it is to pedestrians to drive through a crosswalk while weā€™re in the crosswalk? Like, fully one-third of the way coming/going in the crosswalk?

Held an informal in-person writers gathering yesterdayā€”different genres, people both with and without books/agents. I was so nervous about no one showing up or folks not having a good time, but it turns out writers crave community. I hope to do more gatherings like in the future!

good morning. it is SATURDAY. the third issue of #AbundantNumber is in production. You should send a classified (or calcified) ad. (someone recently got in touch asking to buy a single copy of AN. this is not possible! but you could send in a want-ad and see whether anyone plays along)
