Same. One friend in particular would return books in horrible condition, if he returned them at all, so years ago I cut him off from borrowing. Now if I really want him to read something, I might buy him a copy for his birthday, etc.

I ❤️ Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz. Contemporary setting and flashbacks to 1950s English village Christie-like setting. There is also a complete limited series based on it available via PBS Masterpiece but I recommend reading the book first.

Is auditing an option at your school? Like others have suggested, it’s a good opportunity to teach her, kindly but firmly, that we all have to make tough choices like this at some point and asking others to bend for us isn’t usually an option. Good luck with this situation.
