Urban Planning, transportation policy, history etc. 英国基進主義者 (English state buildingism...its better in the Sino-Japanese). Yes I'm a Japanophile and yes that's 19th century print about Land Surveyors by Hokusai.

Land acknowledgments are basically "fuck you we're not giving the land back and we will say that everyday to mess with you". Australia is a big offender here with Albanese throwing away 10 years of pressure instead of doing NZ style reserved constituencies (an appreciating asset).

Indeed. A big part of social housing is social control by forcing Catch-22 decisions on poor households between tenure vs income/amenity. The UK is by far the worst offender in the OECD (although it was also true of the Warsaw Pact countries, and the PRC even today).

Oh I'm being very Anglocentric. De soto is very much not on Anglosphere planning discussions more "how sad Colonialism/Neoliberalism something something". And Japan never really had have squatters outside WW2-immediate postwar years since property and usage rights were strong from Meiji onwards.

Yeah, I simplified the timeline. Jews only get screwed once Vienna's most famous son gets in. But they never gave the Ringstrasse Apartments back. They were the last minority standing in the 1st Republic.

Any fall sustained in government spending pre-2008 is 1. Peace dividend. 2. Lower interest payments. 3. Lower Unemployment. All overwhelmed by the aged.

Not really outside the stuff on Land Readjustment. The problem is that many Planners and Bureaucrats didn't want it to happen this way and are resentful about it. A lot of it was just people buying house like buying a new car rather than brilliant redevelopment.

Neoliberal America shows endless destruction of the welfare state...wait. Wait. What? Why is most of America's land yellow?

Slum Clearance is all about exclusion hidden. Slum rebuilding is the way to go, with Japan the best case (see Adachi/Katsushika in Tokyo) which is why it deliberately ignored by the International Great and Good.

Its always like this. Red Vienna fans never ask "why did Vienna's population decline so rapidly after 1918 allowing the buying up of land on the cheap by the Socialists" i.e. where did the Jews and Slavs go. And "slum clearances" in UK net destroyed housing.
