A Davenport man was sentenced after he pleaded guilty in a case where a woman was shot after a civil rights protest in May 2020.

Over and over, I hear about the "violent riots", in my city where police chiefs took a knee. Italia Kelly, the woman all you bigots race to uphold, supported the local BLM movement. She was murdered by some generic white guy, who had threatened to kill her and her sister.

It's been over four years, and yet I'm still hearing about the QCA "riots", and the "rioters"' murder of Italia Kelly and folks? I am begging you to be less bigoted than the DPD, who investigated her killing and arrested her murderer... a disgruntled white guy who had threatened her and her sister.

It'd be great if we could leap to a Star Trek future, but it turns out we have to inch our way there. And every few inches forward, we're going to look back at the previous inches and think "how could we fail so spectacularly? How could we dream so small?" But those inches were still forward.

Incremental progress is better than no progress at all, and the incremental improvements of the past (like DADT) remain progressive relative to their era, even as we've stepped up so much further that they seem regressive now.
