What is happening on college campuses nationwide is not about protests It's about the rise of hard authoritarianism attempting to crush all dissent by students and staff. It's time for America's professors and students to stand up and push this back. This is not normal. This is authoritarianism.

Instagram post from WKCR: STATEMENT FROM WKCR'S EXECUTIVE BOARD At 10:23pm a Columbia University Public Safety officer entered WKCR's station and alerted staff and executive board that all individuals were to evacuate and leave the building — that Alfred Lerner Hall (of which WKCR is a part) had been entirely evacuated and, again, that we were to leave. We were alerted to this situation while live broadcasting and thus announced immediately on air. We then called our Columbia advisor in order to help us clarify the situation, to which he explained that he had no prior knowledge of a situation such as this happening to WKCR. After discussion and explanation of WKCR's status as a press organization with a duty to the people of NYC to operate a 24/7 FM signal, and a number of phone calls from the Public Safety officer to Alfred Lerner's building manager, we were told that this was a misunderstanding and we would be allowed to continue to occupy the space.
