I would argue that this is exactly the way that we should be thinking about this and at the same time we should be thinking about how to rebuild the physical systems that digitization and globalization destroyed. The way through is by reinvesting and rebuilding what social infrastructure we once had
As faulty is much of the internet was pre ai you still could find useful information. Now it’s increasingly polluted. Not to put on my conspiracy hat too hard here but it feels deliberate by the powers that be.
Yes! It's also a huge opportunity to make the infrastructure better than it was the first time around! We've learned a *lot* about how things can go sideways and aren't accessible, and we can definitely repair some lost community trust and show that we can collaborate together on big, helpful stuff.
Collectively, we are not even slightly engaging with the potential catastrophic effects of generative AI on human knowledge and archives (and on the ability of current and future generations to read and write). As a teacher I am, shall we say, concerned.
