I love cooking now and have actually gotten into raising my own basil and making compound butter and all that shit that yes is both good and can even save you money but I also 100% recognize I only started doing it out of luxury and having free time and however you need to eat you eat my friend

i love videos making better versions of fast food, but the fundamental misunderstanding is sometimes you just want the fast food. it's not about eating the best version of a crunch wrap supreme, it's about eating taco bells crunch wrap supreme. it's bad in the best way and you can't replicate it.

So much of the stuff that’s framed as economical is only economical in a universe where the rules of time and energy do not apply and I hate that a lot of people who do those kind of YouTube pioneer/ecofriendly/whatever videos impart a morality to it that is both misleading and callous.

I desperately try to keep basil alive for a few weeks every year. We’ll see how I do this time around.

I cook on weekends when I have time and energy, weekdays, if it can't go in the nuker for less than 10 minutes, not happening

I didn't get into cooking until my now-wife moved in with me, because grocery shopping & cooking fresh meals for one is not economical unless you want to eat a very limited diet.

I love cooking too - and I use one whole ass long day a week that I am privileged to not have to do anything else on to perform that labor. It's a luxury and an effort that I have resources to do.

One can also live in an apartment where cooking isn't practical. Once lived in a 400sqft place where the kitchen was a glorified closet and the hood couldn't handle much more than boiling water steam. Wasn't particularly interested in my whole place smelling like every meal from the past week.

People just love to get on a high horse about this stuff. Like it never occurs to them that they could just not reply!
