I do wish caring about the mental well-being of F1 drivers extended beyond the drivers with the biggest fandoms or the drivers people find the hottest. You can’t wish for the unceremonious mid-season replacement of one driver and cry foul when it happens to another.

Anyway none of this should be read as my approval of the way this has all been handled. But I have always thought Red Bull was a toxic mess of a situation and that Christian Horner is actually a terrible manager of human beings. So I don’t find any of this surprising.

Which is not to say that Checo is great or that he’s not having a rough season. But it’s never been obvious to me that Daniel Ricciardo would do better in this Red Bull right now and the numbers don’t bear it out either.

We have two kids, a Honda Fit, and a cargo bike. We live in a small but not especially bike-friendly city. The cargo bike is an excellent second family vehicle!
