Wow. What about my little motorboat that has an inboard engine (the battery gets wet all the time!).

A standard 12 volt starter battery is lead-acid, and that chemistry isn't as hostile to water as lithium is. But also, there's a difference between rain / splashing, and full submersion. Pretty sure no terrestrial battery can be submerged for hours.
