If this is needed, why not fund it from a carbon levy on fossil fuel use? Consumers are paying the green levy to fund renewable electricity. Isn’t this analogous?

I think you are being pessimistic. We’ll crack the CCS problems three years after fusion power comes on-line.

So A. People must continue to die in pain and without dignity until society sorts out end of life care B. Once society decides that end of life care is sorted, people will then be able to choose to be assisted to end their lives. Is that right? Wouldn’t it be more humane to flip this around

I agree. I wear glasses and want to keep the fact that I am a huge twat to myself. So it’s a no from me too

I’m not sure the causality flows that way. 64% think the NHS is broken so that is what Wes Streeting says. #LeadingFromBehind

These are all versions of the “heap of sand paradox” or, as it is also known Wikipedia has just informed me, Sorites paradox en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorites... I wonder if he would apply the same arguments to lots of small removals from his own heap of wealth, eg through taxation.

We also need to address digital training for public servants. I am old enough to remember Esta Ranson’s programme “That’s Life”. Every week there was a disempowered public servant who was told computers never lie in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Switch in AI rinse and repeat.

Every journo asks Rachel Reeves "Which taxes will go up?". Every journo should ask Streeting "Which surgery? Which reforms?" I suspect his reply will be on a par with Jenrick on "English identity". These are serious topics, which serious people engage with. Neither Jenrick or Streeting qualify.

Wow. I first came across Lakoff in the 1990s when I read (quite a lot of) Women, Fire and Dangerous Things. I used it to convince 2 of my friends’ kids to study philosophy. Amazing to see how many people he has influenced. As some one else says on the thread, once seen, never unseen.
