Kidlit Illustrators, you don’t need a huge social following. I hire illustrators who don’t have huge followings all the time. You just need strong work. If you’re trying to decide between spending time practicing or posting, I’d recommend practicing. 💙❤️

I love this advice. It's hard to get a huge following with algorithms in play when all the platforms want is for you to over post. It's nice to post as an end goal but the likes shouldn't be the reason to draw something.

I’m a regional advisor with SCBWI, and we have many members who worry about not having enough of a “platform” to attract agents and editors. We encourage the same. Focus on craft and learn how to pitch your work. It will speak for itself. Thanks for putting this out there!

I seem to thrive most when I treat social media as a community that inspires and keeps me accountable. I had a lot of followers on my original Twitter account, but it became a huge distraction. Better to keep things small and focused.
