Books are ad free. AD FREE. This glorious feature is largely undercelebrated imho.

Literally the only ads I encounter regularly are billboards and podcast host ad reads. Apparently some people let Google interrupt their YouTube videos with ads?

I do miss the old, not quite pulp, printings that had blurb for books by the author, or in the genre, or just by the publisher. It meant that when I took the book back to the library I had an idea of what to look for next.

You don't read ancient trade paperback sf, I take it? Breakfast Of Champions has a whole bit about interstitial ads for porno. While I haven't seen that myself, I have seen several ads for cigarettes that no longer exist.

Except for those ads they stick at the back to get you to buy other books by the same publisher. And don't even think about the ads in comic books 😭

I've read books with flyers glued in like it was a magazine. Usually for cigarettes. I didn't say they were *good* books.

Don't give them the idea!

I’m old enough to remember when books were released as serials to sell newspapers and ad space. Narrator: “He was, in fact, not old enough.”
