Approaching two weeks without running water, so I drove to Charlotte yesterday to go to a laundromat, spend a night in a hotel, & resupply. Local schools are closed "indefinitely", and our university is closed "at least" through Oct. 28. It's a strange, difficult time in Asheville.
Sending best wishes to you and everyone there. I fear that this will be the future of more and more cities as climate change progresses. I hope my fears are overblown.
Is there any talking of moving UNC-A to online learning through the end of the semester? Seems there's a lot of uncertainty around infrastructure right now.
This is horrifying. We have lost electricity for up to 3 weeks, and it was hard, but survivable. Losing water is so much worse.
All of us in NC are thinking about y'all
Having lived through houston hurricanes you have my sympathy.
How awful! Im so sorry this has happened to your community. Just sending love and strength.
I was in Ashville with my family in summer of 2022. It was raining heavily for several days and I remember seeing water draining slowly on the road and seeing on the news that some areas near the French broad river were flooded. The subtle signs of outdated infrastructure were there.
My aunt in Candler reports she was told tap water won’t be available for at least 2 months (!)
So very sorry. The world has taken a battering this year and it is our collective fault as a species.
Hope everyone is ok I can’t imagine how scary this must be for everyone 😞💗
