It’s a terrifying time to be a patient. I have home nursing for BP checks & IV fluids…yet 3 times nurses have tried to administer insulin. I’m not diabetic. What if I were unconscious or unable to correct them? 2 out of 3 got mad at me for correcting them & tried to force the insulin on me /1
I understand healthcare staff are overworked, exhausted and dealing with pandemic trauma. Half the time my nurse doesn’t even show because they’re out sick or someone else is sick & they’re covering. I’m capable of having sympathy for how hard the job must be. But patients are in danger. /2
I need the "wow" react for every one of those... and that is just not a sufficient reaction for the level of Wooooow! 😖
WTAF? Are you getting that in writing? "Patient refused insulin" Which, damn straight, because as you said, it's dangerous for a non-diabetic.
Many years back, I met someone whose mum had nearly been killed by her home care workers. They'd skipped a week's meds, then tried to force her to take them all at once. I think the police may have been involved. I gave up on home care years ago, as the system was utterly abusive.
What. The. Hell. Forcing meds on someone is a Big Deal. And should only be done in either a life or death situation or a court order. I hope you feel safe enough to report their asses. Sincerely, a nurse pissed off on your behalf.
