In the article, I use the musical Hamilton as an example to bridge the gap between scripture and fanfic, then use affect theory to look at how the book of Esther writes in a way that is embodied and "emotioned." (Shout-out to Brit Kelley for the latter.)

I'm thrilled to share that the new issue of The Bible & Critical Theory includes an article by me, among many amazing pieces! This is my first official article presenting my arguments about fan fiction and the book of Esther. bibleandcriticaltheory.com/vol-19-no-1-...

Refaat Alareer’s daughter, to whom his now-famous “If I Must Die” poem was addressed, was murdered with her husband and son in Gaza today by Israel

Tweet from Mosab Abu Toha:

No, no, no, no.
Refaat's daughter, Shimaa and her new baby and the husband got killed in an airstrike today.
Just a few days ago, I mentioned that Refaat became a grandfather.
Tweet from Refaat Alareer:
If I must die, you must live
to tell my story to sell my things to buy a piece of cloth and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail) so that a child, somewhere in Gaza while looking heaven in the eye awaiting his dad who left in a blaze-and bid no one farewell not even to his flesh not even to himself-
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above
and thinks for a moment an angel is there bringing back love
If I must die let it bring hope let it be a tale

This book uses three examples of violent biblical stories about women, explored through the lens of conceptual metaphor theory in relation to culinary language

Your foes would see you sleepless. Resist and rest. You have said “yes” enough. Today is a day to roar “NO.” The gods have bestowed meds to buoy your mighty strength; do not neglect their gifts!

"environments of clouded agency" is so good— this is exactly what drone technology did in the late 2000s / early 2010s: distended the chain of cause & effect to create the technocratic illusion that a whole disembodied system "did" the murder & not specific ppl who have names and addresses
