I think it's a similar cultural thing that we see with things like the pro-palestine campus protests. They weren't violent but they were TOO disruptive and so was shut down hard. They want resistance to be tidy and convenient, more about being heard than results.
💯💯💯 I think it comes specifically from the undercurrent of puritanical values in the US/western culture. There's such a big pressure to conform and not rock the boat. With non violent resistance they can "move on" or otherwise not disrupt things TOO much. But violence forces them onto a side.
That is correct. Any automated system which successfully removed racist/extremist content had SIGNIFICANT overlap with US Republicans and Conservative figures (Hannity, Ingram, etc.). This is right up there with the whole "reality has a liberal bias" thing
