The article said she was a lecturer, but she’s actually a teaching fellow, likely even more precarious (i don’t know her contract, but that’s common). Women are more often in these roles, and women instructors are more often targeted by the right. Gendered hiring creates these vulnerabilities too

I am on the same contract, it’s a position created for UChicago PhDs who don’t land jobs right away. It is more precarious (term-limited with no possibility of further renewal) and pays better than an adjunct but worse than a full-time lecturer
