Simplistic article for an industry wide problem affecting not just architects, with commercial pressure to use cheaper products (e.g. catastrophically inferior ‘flame resistant’ foam panels that burn in a real fire). Reusing the previous detail because ‘that one didn’t burn down’ is awful hindsight.

Maybe impose strict liability on individuals who specify sub-standard materials and those upstream who approve and sign off plans.

In the 90s there was a big push to get rid of the Clerk of Works and make contractors self-policing. You might guess who pushed hardest for that. As a result, practically every project now falls short of proper standards in varying degrees.
